new stamp to feature the Lincoln statue at Tredegar Iron Works

Venture Richmond announced today that the statue of President Lincoln and his son Tad, located at Richmond National Battlefield Park’s main visitor center at Tredegar Iron Works, has been selected to represent the Mid-Atlantic Region in the 2009 “Passport to Your National Parks” stamp set.

Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday is being commemorated in 2009. Information on more events around Richmond honoring President Lincoln coming soon!

Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One @ Tredegar

Harriet Tubman is perhaps the most well-known of all the Underground Railroad’s “conductors.” During a ten-year span she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom. Professional actress and historian Gwendolyn Briley-Strand brings to life the courageous story of Harriet Tubman in a stirring 45-minute performance this Saturday at The American Civil War Center at Tredegar.

Sons of Confederate Veterans proposes Davis statue at Tredegar

The Sons of Confederate Veterans is offering to donate a bronze statue of Jefferson Davis, the first and only president of the the Confederacy, to be placed at Tredegar Iron Work to mark the bicentennial of his birth. [via]
