The February meeting of the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association will be held tonight, Monday, February 15th at 5:30PM at Sheba (9 North 17th Street). The focus of the meeting will be GRTC’s proposed Broad and Main rapid transit corridor and the proposed connecting corridor. Also, George Bolos of the 17th Street Farmers Market will present on a practical and achievable light rail plan for Shockoe Bottom’s Main Street Station.

The Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association’s cookout is tonight from 5:30 to 7:00 at the Canal Lofts Pool. The event is open to all interested in joining the SBNA.

The September meeting of the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association will take place this Monday, September 21^st at 5:30p.m.  The meeting will be held at the new Aztek Grill at 1726 East Main Street at the corner of 18^th and East Main Streets.

The Second Annual Shockoe on the Halfshell Oyster Festival is scheduled for this Saturday at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market. This month’s SBNA meeting will be held tonight at 5:30 pm at Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant.

The 17th Street Farmers’ Market and the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association bring you the second annual Shockoe Chef Showdown is this Saturday, August 1st, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Top chefs from Richmond and the surrounding area will be competing for top honors in a Signature Dish Competition where entries will be judged in three main categories: the best meat dish, best vegetarian cuisine, and of course, the most decadent dessert. Taste-test the best $2 samples of each Signature Dish from 11AM to 1PM, when afterwards, main courses will be sold in bulk to take home for dinner!

The June meeting of the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association will take place this Monday, June 15th at 5:30 p.m. at Café Gutenberg, located on the corner of 17th and East Main Streets. Included in this month’s meeting will be: a brief presentation by the Department of Public Utilities on Project Green Alley, a recap of our first two Red White and Brew festivals, a volunteer sign-up to I.D., and pour beer at future festivals, committee reports, and your ideas, comments, and concerns.

The Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association’s annual Spring cleanup will take place this Saturday morning, May 16th from 8:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.

Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the River City Diner for complementary coffee before venturing out to clean our Bottom.  All participants will be served a complementary pizza lunch at Bottoms Up pizza following the cleanup.  The City of Richmond Police department has pledged a trash removal truck and extra manpower to assist us with our cleanup.  (Thank you, Lt. The April meeting of the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association will be held this Monday April 20^th at 5:30p.m. at Café Gutenburg, located on the corner of 17^th and East Main Streets.  An agenda for the meeting will be announced later this week, as there is a lot to discuss.

Last week the Historic Shockoe Partnership (Shockoe Slip neighborhood association) voted unanimously against the idea of Main Street Station being used as a GRTC transfer station. They are opposed to almost all aspects of the proposal (PDF). This evening, the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association board will be meeting to draft a formal letter of opposition to the current plan as GRTC presented it to City Council’s Land Use Committee last week.

The first Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association Meeting of 2009 is this Monday January 19th at 5:30 p.m.  This month’s meeting will be held at The Old City Bar located at 1548 East Main Street on the corner of 17th and Main Streets.

The Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association meeting scheduled for this coming Monday has been moved one week to accommodate a special guest, Highwoods Properties, who will provide a more detailed presentation on the proposed ballpark in Shockoe Bottom. This is your chance to be familiarized with the proposal as well as ask any questions you may have. Monday November 24th, 5:30PM.
