1,200 volunteers needed for the folk festival
The 2009 Richmond Folk Festival is seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles throughout the festival – October 9-11, 2009. Last year, the event drew 185,000 people to downtown Richmond’s historic riverfront, and with another huge event expected this year organizers are in need of volunteer commitments. The majority of the event is run by volunteers.

Richmond Folk Festival takes over Brown’s Island next weekend
The Richmond Folk Festival takes place Oct.10-12 on the banks of downtown Richmond’s riverfront, from 2nd to 7th streets and from Byrd Street to the river. Seven stages, 30+ performing groups, Virginia Folklife Area demonstration area, Crafts Marketplace, ethnic foods and more! The Richmond Folk Festival is set for Friday-Sunday Oct.10-12:
Last year, nearly 175,000 people came down to downtown Richmond’s riverfront to celebrate the roots, richness and variety of American culture through music, dance traditional crafts, storytelling and food. This year will offer the same overwhelming excellence you enjoyed last year, with a whole new list of performers, artists and exhibitors.

Richmond Folk Festival set for Oct.10-12, 2008
Next October 10-12 will mark the inaugural Richmond Folk Festival, the new local offshoot of the successful National Folk Festival from the past 3 years. The musical line-up has yet to de determined. Sponsors including Dominion Resources Inc., Richmond Times-Dispatch, Genworth Financial, First Market Bank, Philip Morris USA, SunTrust, Ukrop’s, the City of Richmond and NewMarket Corp. have committed to help fund the Richmond Folk Festival, though more sponsors are being sought with expenses expected to run about $1.4 million.
