There should be a Whole Foods in Manchester

The Henrico Whole Foods yesterday announced plans to stock the store from their own community garden, something that Manchester has already seen a little of. It seems that a Whole Foods in Manchester would not only serve the growing density in the immediate area, but also draw folks from Shockoe, Tobacco Row, Forrest Hills, the Fan, and Church Hill. What do you think?

Papa’s Pizza in Style
Papa’s Pizza made last week’s Short Order in Style:
It’s mostly a carry-out place — nine seats at the window notwithstanding — but Papa’s Pizza, Pasta and Subs offers a new dining option in Manchester. The shop’s debut at 214 Hull St. coincides with a surge in apartment and condo move-ins, and owners Drew Papa and Ricardo Cucuzza hope to capitalize on their niche. “We’re the only pizza delivery in Manchester and Church Hill,” Papa says, “and with the area building up, everything comes together.” Take-out options attract neighborhood regulars.
Papa’s offers New York- and Sicilian-style pies and calzones with house-made dough, and also baked and sautéed pastas, subs, salads and desserts, with most dishes in the $10 range. Open daily from 10:30 a.m. for lunch and dinner, Sundays from 2-9 p.m. 415-7285. www.papasdelivers.com.
Have you tried out Papa’s yet?

Tricycle Gardens announces first Urban Mini Farm in Manchester
We are breaking ground on our first Urban Mini Farm (yet to be named) at the corner of 9th St. & Bainbridge St., in old Manchester. We are setting up a vermiculture operation, hoop houses for cold weather growing, a living fence of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries (YUM!), and gardens for intensive growing. Thanks to the generosity of Robin Miller and Dan Gecker of Monroe Properties, we are ready to get the first model of high yield urban farming up and running on 1/2 an acre of under utilized urban land. The ultimate goal is job creation, as we implement urban farms throughout Richmond. Jobs, healthy food access, bio-diversity, ecological restoration, and more….Stay tuned for volunteer work days!

change coming to Manchester
In the next couple months, two significant renovation projects in Manchester should be complete. The second location of Croaker’s Spot in scheduled to open next month and the Manchester Courthouse in scheduled to reopen the following month. The completion of these projects are spurring further growth in the neighborhood.
No one is overlooking Manchester now. The work at the old courthouse has already brought in a new law firm, and bail bondsman. A pizzeria is on the way and the growth is spreading east, up Hull Street. [via]
