artspace announces an open call to all artists working in any medium to submit entries for Strassen Kunst, an international exhibition of work inspired by graffiti. The exhibition juror, Martin McFadden LRPS, Director and Curator, 12 12 Gallery, Richmond, Virginia, will award up to $1000 and a solo exhibition in artspace’s Helena Davis Gallery.

Colors of Life: International Photography Competition @ artspace

Please join artspace on Friday, October 23rd and October 30th, from 7-10PM, for the continuation of bookart@artspace and Colors of Life: International Photography Competition in the Main, Helena Davis, and Frable Galleries. The presentation of artspace members’ work also continues in the Suzanne Foley Gallery, along with an original work by Michael Pierce that is being raffled during the exhibition.

A portion of the funds collected from sales of artists’ works and otherwise at exhibitions will support PANGEA ONLUS, a non-profit organization actively providing and giving assistance to women in need in Afghanistan through PROJECT JAMILA.

artspace has announced the radius250 2009 award recipients, honoring Erin Riley with Best in Show and Aaron Sizemore, Alexander Grabiec, and Scott Hazard with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places. radius250 is a juried show of artists working within a 250 mile radius around Richmond. The show runs through Sunday, August 23.

12 12 Gallery and artspace accepting exhibition proposals

Exhibition proposals are now being accepted by the two galleries:

12 12 Gallery: Currently scheduling for 2010, the gallery can exhibit all media with only a few restrictions. Space limitations do not allow for work that is larger than 60″ in length or width, weighs more that 60 lbs, or requires installation. Gallery intends to exhibit the work of at least one photographer per exhibition period, which is approximately 5 weeks. artspace: Currently scheduling for 2009 – 2010, the gallery can exhibit all media and installations, where work or components of the final piece must fit through an 8 ft wide entrance.
