As cofounder and leader of the seminal progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival through 18 years during the 1970s and ’80s, Bush may not be the only person responsible for newgrass, the wild bluegrass stepchild that features rock ‘n’ roll grooves and extended virtuosic jams, but since New Grass Revival’s dissolution in 1989, Bush has certainly been one of the most brilliant of newgrass’s many bright lights. [...] he’s still as vital a presence on the acoustic music scene as ever: still making new sounds, still rockin’ out on great songs, and still pushing the bar higher for the legions of his protégés, fans and friends.

Friday Cheers - Sam Bush (w/ The Whiskey Rebellion)

Fri May 23 6:00 pm
@ Brown’s Island
Though he admits a certain discomfort with the moniker “King of Newgrass,” Sam Bush has more than earned it. He helped create newgrass music almost 35 years ago, but Laps in Seven is evidence that he’s still as vital a presence on the acoustic music scene as ever: still making new sounds, still rockin’ out on great songs, and still pushing the bar higher for the legions of his protégés, fans and friends.

Paul Goldman, candidate for mayor, says that the Wilder-backed Echo Harbour marina project is not in the best long-term interests of the city, and that he will oppose it. The candidate also says that backers of the marina project “have left many important fiscal and other questions either unanswered or incompletely answered”. [via email]

“I oppose the proposed Echo Harbour project, and I will not support it” he added.

In a statement, Goldman continued:

“As for those who have proposed what is generally known as the Marina project, I believe they have left many important fiscal and other questions either unanswered or incompletely answered in terms. As I said in developing the basic planks of the fiscal plan that was used, after the others had failed, to modernize the Carpenter Center as the lynchpin of a downtown Arts Center, there are a mandatory set of fiscal and other questions which must be answered in a way that provides full transparency and understanding to citizens of the community.”

“We need to turn the page and move away from the old politics.”
