green monday revival at GlobeHopper- one night only!
The Story of Stuff Project has teamed up with the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign and several other leading water groups to bring to you much-anticipated animated short “The Story of Bottled Water!”
The viral video premieres March 22, 2010 on World Water Day. For old times sake, Green Mondays will take place to watch this short documentary and talk about the issues at GlobeHopper Coffee House and Lounge at 6 pm.

City offers park walks in March
Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will continue offering its guided walks on the Slave Trail throughout March and has added a new walk to see the growing nesting colony of Great Blue Herons in the James River Park.
The guided walks along the Slave Trail will be offered on the remaining Saturdays in March at 2 p.m. These are emotional walks that originate at the docks at Ancarrow’s Landing in the James River Park and cross the river to conclude at the site of Lumpkin’s Jail and the Reconciliation Statue.

What is the story behind those 2 beautifully restored train cars that show up at the foot of the 14th Street Bridge from time to time, and just sit there for a few days? I see cars parked, and people inside, but I never see it get moved!

Pennies in Protest
In response to Westboro Baptist Church’s scheduled visits to Richmond today, a local group called Pennies in Protest is calling all Richmonders to donate money to the targets of the anti-gay and anti-Jew protests.
Pennies in Protest has set up a Facebook page and a website to collect donations, but encourages Richmonders to give any way they feel comfortable, including giving directly to the organizations impacted by Tuesday’s protests.
According to NBC12.com, Pennies in Protest have already collected more than $6,000.

big plans for the former Reynolds plant
Fountainhead Properties and the WVS Companies announced today that they’ve formed a joint venture, Fall Line Capital LLC, to purchase and develop the Reynold Plant along the Canal Walk. The developers plan to convert the 6 acre property into a mixed-use space. The first phase will begin in January of next year. [via]

Tobacco Row Warehouse Tour
At 6:00 p.m., the architects from O’Dell & Associates will give Quoit Club a tour of their award-winning new offices in the American Tobacco Company Lucky Strike Power Plant building in Shockoe Bottom. Originally built in 1930, the Power Plant has been redesigned to create a multi-level studio environment, retaining key historical features of the building including the exterior glass and masonry envelope and skylights that provide natural light to the open studio. A reception at the new offices of Glavé & Holmes Architecture, a few blocks east of Lucky Strike in a newly-renovated cigar factory that was part of the Edgeworth Tobacco warehouse complex, will follow. If the weather cooperates, enjoy the city views from the new roof deck. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by White House Catering.

woman assaulted this morning
The RTD is reporting that around 12:30 am this morning a woman was assaulted after parking her car on 1700 block of East Cary St.
The woman told police a man approached her, displayed a handgun and demanded money. When she said she didn’t have any, he began fondling her, and she struggled with him before pushing him away, police said…
The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s with a light complexion, clean-shaven and dressed in nice denim jeans and a black shirt. The woman told police the man was not wearing a coat.

‘Connecticut’ statue moving to Tobacco Row

The Richmond Metropolitan Authority has made a decision and the Native American statue “Connecticut” is expected to be headed from The Diamond to Tobacco Row.
This afternoon, the RMA Board of Directors voted to adopt a recommendation by the advisory group to grant the proposal from Odell and Associates, which plans to place the 2,400 pound statue at the Lucky Strike building on Tobacco Row in Shockoe Bottom.

SBNA meets tonight at Sheba
The February meeting of the Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association will be held tonight, Monday, February 15th at 5:30PM at Sheba (9 North 17th Street). The focus of the meeting will be GRTC’s proposed Broad and Main rapid transit corridor and the proposed connecting corridor. Also, George Bolos of the 17th Street Farmers Market will present on a practical and achievable light rail plan for Shockoe Bottom’s Main Street Station.

ABC Board revokes Club Velvet’s liquor license
The Virginia ABC Board made the decision on Thursday to revoke Club Velvet’s liquor license based on evidence that Moore allowed underage drinking, public nudity, drug use, consumption of alcohol in unauthorized areas of the club and allowed sexual acts to be performed on club customers.
Moore has 30 days to appeal the decision with the ABC and can continue to serve alcohol during that time. The transcript of the ABC hearing is available here (warning: graphic).
