baseball ownership group visiting Richmond

Reid and Reese Ryan, of Ryan-Sanders Baseball, will be in Richmond today visiting the Diamond and proposed stadium site in Shockoe Bottom. Ryan-Sanders Baseball owns and operates two minor league teams in Texas. They are here to explore their options in owning an Eastern League franchise, but are quick to reiterate they are just looking. [via]

New advertising sizes and contact info

Hey folks! You might’ve noticed that we’ve got a bigger advert than before over there to the left, and that our other smaller adverts have gotten a little chubbier, too. We’ve done to this to try to bring more value to the spots for our site sponsors, and hope that it does not detract from the experience of reading/using River District News. Wanna get the word out about your event, service, or business? Advertise on this site or on the Richmond Ad Network.

the end of the experiment

I started this site just over a year ago to see if a community news blog could take for the area. I think that it has worked very well and still has even greater potential, but I’m not the person for this anymore. If someone from the area would like to pick up this site and make it their own, please comment below and I’ll get back to you.

a pretty good 180 days

Six months into this thing, it seems like it’s really working. In our almost 250 posts, we caught the raid on Velvet and all of that mess, we broke how close Cafe Gutenberg came to closing, helped spread the word on the painting over of Trask’s Princess Diana mural, and offered many many many ways to to get out and enjoy yourself. Along the way, we’ve seen great new places like LuLu’s, GlobeHopper, Halligan, and Savor open the doors.

no, not really :)

Local “news site” River District News, in a lame attempt at seasonal humor, posted several half-assed April Fools stories early this morning. “I’ve been spending too much time with middle school kids”, site author Murden said when called on his juvenile prank. [via]

FYI

We’ll be doing some site maintenance over the next day or so that might knock out the lights for a while. If that happens, we ought to be back up within the day.

about the RDN classifieds

Our classifieds adverts are free and pretty useful. Anything listed through this site shows up at the top of the classifieds page (and on the left side of *all* of the pages), after that we pull in the Craig’s List info. Take the For Sale/Wanted for instance…
