racial profiling at shockoe bottom clubs?

U of R’s student newspaper, The Collegian, has an op/ed piece questioning the enforcement of rules at clubs in the bottom, specifically Tiki Bob’s Cantina.

My friend who had the sleeveless shirt and the men with the baggy jeans were Caucasian. My friend who was wearing a similar pair of jeans and was denied entrance was African-American… So next time you decide to go out, don’t worry so much about club rules and regulations. Take a look in the mirror and keep what you see in mind, because at the end of night, it’s all black and white. [via]

A blessing in disguise, my friend. I’d rather be outside in the rain than inside at Tiki Bob’s. Ick.

On a lighter note, though, we can all take solace that the dress code further up the Slip is apparently enforced more evenly: http://tinyurl.com/cf9ttb

Just wondering…whats the percentage of black students at U of R? Silly UR trust fund babies got nothing better to do than complain.
Hello kettle, This is the pot….you’re black.

    Christo- you’re an idiot

Hey Shockoe…nice. Call me names when u gots noth’n. Brilliant. You make me laugh.

No Christo, you’re an idiot. Because you insulted people who you don’t know, and you missed the point of the piece entirely, going off instead on a separate, and completely unrelated tirade. I’m guessing you need an outlet like this because the folks around you yawn a lot when you speak. Whether or not the writer was from UR has nothing to do with whether or not Tiki’s door bouncer’s actions were racially motivated. The fact that you missed that nugget of importance, or dismissed it completely by stereotyping a particular segment of the local population (much like Tiki Bob’s stands accused of doing) is why you are an idiot. And in defense of Shockoe, you were tossing out names first, “pot”.

OK….let’s see how I missed the point. 2 kids from UR (where the black population is 329 out of 4496 students) goes to Tiki Bobs. They are upset because their black “brothers” can’t get in. Ahhhh, It’ so important in life to obtain entry to Richmond’s cheesyest club. Shouldn’t our intrepid reporters instead spend their time figuring out why blacks can’t get into UofR? …the very school they write for? BTW, 3 sentences does not a “tirade” make. :)

Seriously, Christo, you are an idiot.

  8. posted by Bob at November 26, 2009 7:18 pm [#]:

Your both dumb. Route 5 between tiki bobs and the burg is filled with slave owners and your discusing dress codes…. VA is horrible for black people and the dress code has nothing to do with it. BIGGOTS

They made the right call, their other girlfriend had a sleevless shirt, but those rules are ttargeted towards guys. If you go out to any clubs in Richmond, find out their dress policies and obide by them. They have been around for years and they odviously do something right. They have enough trouble as it is kicking drunken loosers out everynight, so do them a favor… Quite complaining. Remember YOU wanted to go to THEIR club. Follow their rules.

Have you ever thought that perhaps the “blacks” as you call them, Christo, might not be applying in droves to UofR? Regardless of why that is, until you know how many were denied admission, let’s not make baseless accusations.
