the market opened this weekend, but…

The 17th Street Farmer’s Market opened this past week. Vendors are optimistic about the upcoming market season according to Michael Paul William’s column this week. However, a few folks visiting the market felt that it wasn’t ready on time, as evidenced by many last minute preparations including the Mayor’s aides having to help hang banners. Some long time vendors are upset about the market being closed on Sundays…

What are you hearing?

i’m a vendor downtown and have a booth at the growers market on thursdays. i went the past thursday as the 1st of the season, and i thought it was a decent turnout of people. many vegetable vendors are not out and ready yet, as the crazy weather and snow earlier in the year meant some growers had to ’start over’.

something else i learned is that the farmers market has lots of advertising lined up and promo stuff, but cannot move on much of it until the city passes a budget. until then they can’t access funds for those things…

It’s still early in the season, pre-season really. There are so many great new events and programs planned that this year looks like it will be very good for vendors and customers. Be sure to check out the Taste of the Market at 12:30 on Thursdays when manager George whips up a scrumptious snack from what the vendors are offering that week. Last week it was a buffalo brisket sandwhich with goat cheese and broccoli rabe.
