James Center’s Grand Illumination and more this weekend

Last year for the Grand Illumination we walked from 18th Street over to the Illumination and back and marveled how, on nights like this with so many people out and about on foot, Richmond feels like a different and larger city. Come on down Friday night for the 10th Annual Holiday Market @ 17th Street Farmers Market, check out the Canal Boat Rides at the Turning Basin, the Main Street Station Holiday Open House, the Capitol Square Tree Lighting, and the James Center’s Grand Illumination. There isn’t another night like it.

Thanks to Tevor Dickerson for use of his photo for our illustration above.

martinbrtj has a short video from last year’s Grand Illumination:

Here’s what Linette Bond, assistant manager at the Farmers Market, told me about some of the great things that are planned for the Holiday Market:

“George [the manager] is going to be dressed up as Santa with another associate of ours from the main office as Mrs. Claus and we’ll have pictures taken for the kids (and you may even see a couple of elves!), live Christmas trees for sale, hot cider & wassail from Halligan’s, a fire-pit to keep us warm, holiday lights, the Henrico Pops Chorus live and a Tuba Christmas, of course! I have it on good authority that Santa himself will even have his Tuba to play along. ;-)”

Now isn’t that better than the mall?
