Farmers Market needs *something* to happen
Style Weekly has a double dose of 17th Street Farmers Market goodness: a look at the Market and the politics all around that make it kind of sucky (didja know that the Forest Hill Park market “draws more than 1,200 people on Saturdays”?), and the news that Kathy Emerson may be interested in returning to manage the market.

delicious Relish
Richmond blog i know things stopped by Relish for lunch yesterday, describing the place as “kind of like a cafeteria for foodie grown-ups. :)”. The short piece gives a shout out to fresh greens, tomato parmesan soup, fresh lemonade and limeade, and the Indian themed-food featured on Thursdays in the hot bar.

Wilder, Pantele have a tender moment
Rachel DePompa’s new blog for NBC12 hits the ground running with the story of mayoral candidate and council president Bill Pantele’s press conference this morning in Shockoe Bottom and the oh-so-coincidental appearance by Mayor Wilder to refute Pantele’s accusations of “finger-pointing” and confusion:
Pantele was touting his new plan to crack down on street level crime. He told a crowd of about 25 people he would adopt a zero tolerance policy for neighborhood crime if elected mayor. He said part of the focus would be on prostitution, assault, graffiti, loitering and vagrancy. Pantele said, “It all starts at the top, with having determination that neighborhood crime matters. It does and I’m serious about it and rather than finger pointing or confusing it’s time for real leadership.”

This Monday, September 8, we will watch the short documentary, “Unity for the Community” created by Environmental Justice Action Media (EJAM). EJAM is a Boston based network of students, teachers, and activists working for environmental and social change with media as their tool. Our discussion will focus on the topic of Environmental Injustice - the theory that environmental issues tend to disproportionately affect people of lower socioeconomic status. We will explore ways in which we see such environmental injustices occurring within our community and discuss ways in which we can work towards full equity and inclusion in the environmental community and the city at large.
