Gone to the Birds AND Shockoe Chef Showdown this Saturday @ 17th Street

Come experience a unique phenomenon as 10,000 Purple Martins rush to nest at sunset at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market! The Shockoe Chef Showdown and the Gone to the Birds Festival, part of a full day at The 17th Street Farmers’ Market, both run this Saturday, July 26. The Showdown runs from 11AM-4PM and Gone to the Birds runs from 6-9PM.
Visit one of the local participating restaurants during Gone to the Birds for food or drink specials, including Purple Martini’s. Also enjoy extended hours at the Farmer’s Market, free purple ice cream, and learn more about the birds that call Shockoe Bottom their home for one month each summer.
Check a description of the purple martins from last year and a great photo of the birds from a few days ago.

HEY BEER LOVERS!!!
The Shockoe Bottom Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a Loveland Beer Truck during Shockoe Chef Showdown! Volunteers from the RFMAA will be checking IDs and serving. Come on out and enjoy the festivities with a beer in hand to support the 17th Street Farmers’ Market, the SBNA and RFMAA!
Please drink responsibly, unless youre walking home!
See you Saturday!
