From Ironfronts to the High Rise walking tour

Enjoy the architectural treasures of the banks, brokerage houses and other beautiful buildings in Richmond’s Financial District. With your guide, examine the engineering achievements of the modern high-rise, in terms of design, detail and composition. You will also have the opportunity to view other architectural elements, such as the cast iron fronts of several structures in the district and examples of art deco on Franklin Street.

Back Porch @ Globehopper: American Blackout

You are cordially invited to join us for conversations on the Back Porch, Monday evenings at GlobeHopper coffee house. GlobeHopper, located at 2100 E Main Street, is home to a weekly forum of open issue-based community discussions. Back Porch moderates multi-media discussions based on social topics of social-interest. Gathering begins at 6:30pm, multi-media discussion begins promptly at 7:00pm.
This week we will be watching American Blackout, a documentary that chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement in American society. It follows the amazing story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who took an active role in investigating voting trends recent elections. Join us to discuss the various avenues of citizen action in the city of Richmond and ways in which we would like to mobilize the community to take part in such actions.

This tour focuses on the history, architecture, and preservation efforts of the canal area. Come explore the historic and architectural treasures of Shockoe Slip, and see the work that is being done in this 19th century warehouse district along the James River, the Great Basin and Richmond’s canals.

Night Walk on the Slave Trail

Meet at Ancarrow’s Landing (end of Maury St.), $5 for adults, $3 for children, 8:30pm-11pm
Follow in silent torchlight the path, thru the forest, from the stone docks to the slave jails. An emotional journey; 2 miles one way. (Buses will bring people back).
