On July 12, 2008, the James River Association (JRA) will host the first annual Runoff Rundown, a one-day event celebrating America’s Founding River. The goal is for teams and individuals to collectively travel the entire 340 miles the James River, from the headwaters at Iron Gate to the mouth at the Chesapeake Bay. Sign up for your piece - a lazy two-mile float at Scottsville, an intense whitewater kayak through downtown Richmond, a fishing trip with your friends on the flats below the Enon bridge or a sunset cruise to the Chesapeake Bay… Everyone is encouraged to be creative in their support of the first annual James River Association Runoff Rundown.

The idea of the Rundown is simple - river enthusiasts from across the Commonwealth will paddle, boat, tube, sail or otherwise cover small sections of the James River such that, taken in concert, the entire length of the James River - all 340-miles - will be traveled in one day. As part of their Rundown, River Runners may observe water quality, view wildlife, and simply enjoy the river. Moreover, friends and family can show support for the JRA and individual Runners by pledging support at the Runoff Rundown website.
