first annual National Train Day @ Main Street Station

To raise awareness of the vital role rail plays in our nation’s transportation system, the City of Richmond will join Amtrak and other partner organizations in celebrating the first annual National Train Day in a public event at Main Street Station on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30AM.

Media and the public are encouraged to attend the celebration, which will include speakers from around the Commonwealth, light refreshments and the arrival of the #67 Daily train from Washington, D.C. at 10:12 a.m.

Speaking will be: Viktoria Badger, Principal Planner in the City’s Department of Public Works; Chip Badger, Deputy Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation; and Daniel L. Plaugher, Executive Director of Virginians for High Speed Rail.

“We are very pleased to have the City of Richmond join the National Train Day celebration,” said David Lim, Chief Marketing Officer for Amtrak. “Trains are an important part of life in Richmond now as they have been for over 100 years. It is great to have the City aboard.”

One Response to “first annual National Train Day @ Main Street Station”

Anyone taking bets on whether or not the “arrival of the #67 Daily train from Washington, D.C. at 10:12 a.m.” will actually happen anywhere near 10:12 a.m.?

If it doesn’t maybe they could use its tardiness to raise awareness of the poor business model we use in this country, where we run a public train system over private tracks…
