Halligan is doing it right

The RTD’s Dana Craig visits Halligan Bar & Grill and comes away raving:

Brined in vinegar and drizzled with Halligan’s signature tomato-meets-vinegar barbecue sauce, the Carolina pulled pork sandwich was excellent — tender meat flaunting smoke-kissed, crispy edges served on a toasted bun. Just as good were the hand-cut fries, hot from the fryer and packing plenty of seasoning. [...] The corn bread alone — super-moist and accented with rosemary and crushed red pepper — is worthy of top menu billing.

The online article also links to a quick little slide show of some of the great details of the place.

The sidebar on the article also mentions that this is a smoking bar, and says succinctly “small space, very smoky”.

I poked my head in there last weekend because I wanted to see the cool decor I’d heard about. I is really a cool space, and when I walked in, the owner, who was sitting at the bar, introduced himself. Too smokey to stay for more than a few minutes though.

Yeah, its a great place if you go during off-hours, the attention to detail is *really* well done. I went hopping with a few friends one night and we ended there. I’m not sure I’d frequent it during traditional bar nights with the smoking though.

If you work downtown, it’s a very good lunch spot. I’ve been there twice and have had great meals both times. I’m a big fan of the firehats as light fixtures.
