Give City the 4-1-1 on Richmond’s 3-1-1
From the Office of the Press Secretary: Mayor L. Douglas Wilder announced today the beginning of a month-long “Give Us the 4-1-1″ campaign to help the City improve its new 311 Call Center to handle citizen requests for municipal services. Residents can dial 311 to report potholes, downed trees, utility issues, request social services, and other City matters. The campaign, which will run from March 11 through mid-April, is an invitation for City residents who have used the phone system and encountered problems to let the City know what those problems were so they can be corrected and the system improved.

Public Safety Meeting @ Broad Street
The regular meeting of the Public Safety Committee of City Council will be moved to the Renaissance Conference Center (107 West Broad Street) on Monday, 3/17 @ 3PM. On the agenda for the meeting are: 1) the need for greater police presence along Broad Street, 2) the need to remove prostitutes, panhandlers, and drug dealers from the area, and 3) the need to improve trash pick-up and interrupted street lighting. This meeting is open to the public; anyone who has an interest in effective and on-going downtown Richmond revitalization is encouraged to attend. [via]

5th Annual Shamrock the Block
It’s that time of the year and spring fever is kicking in! What better way to kick off the season then hanging out with your friends St. Patrick’s Day weekend as we put the “Rock” back in Shamrock. This all ages event will feature live music from classic rock favorites The Georgia Satellites and new rock newcomers, Louis XIV. There will also be a children’s area, vendors, lots of great food and plenty of cold beverages. In addition, Shamrock the Block is going “Green” and will feature environmentally friendly initiatives including a new recycling program from Waste Management - How to make your home more “Green”.
