   And now the RTD has picked this up and added some juicy details: Owner of Club Velvet acquitted before:

   Moore, 44, was acquitted almost 10 years ago of murder and malicious wounding in a fatal fight in a Shockoe Bottom bar.

   Richmond Circuit Judge Robert W. Duling acquitted Moore of both the murder and malicious-wounding charges. Moore’s lawyers argued that prosecutors had not proven he had stabbed Hendricks and that, if he had done so, he was acting in self defense.

   Moore was not prosecuted on charges of voluntary manslaughter and maiming that initially were brought against him in the case.

   In the years since his murder trial and acquittal, Moore has been charged with and acquitted of four felonies and one misdemeanor, according to Richmond Circuit Court records in the state’s online circuit court case files. They were:

   - two charges of rape, dismissed without trial in 2003;

   - aggravated sexual battery (amended to misdemeanor sexual battery), acquitted and attempted rape, acquitted after jury trial in 2002; and

   - assault, a misdemeanor, dismissed after trial early last year.

   I am postive I saw this man and at Picola’s on Harrison and Main last Tuesday. He was with an older gentleman who was asking for beer. I originially thought he had just gotten out of jail or prison because he was acting so strange and was dressed even more oddly.I have a hard time believing that he is innocent on those 1998 charges seeing how he has continued to be an issue in the legal system since then. Its funny how you can get a vibe about random people and then a few days later the turn up in the news for the same issues you associated them with.

   He has a very creepy look about him and if you got creepy guy vibes off him in Piccola’s, I’m sure he’s guilty. A man like him doesn’t run a “gentlemen’s lounge” without more truly going on behind the scenes (I say this given his record of sexual assault/attempted rape on several occasions as listed above).

   And once a sex offender, always a sex offender. Maybe now it will all catch up with him and he’ll do some time as well as close Velvet.

   AS Ms. Daab mentioned in an earlier post of her own, be very careful of the terminology used here. He has not ever been convicted of anything, therefore is not a sex offender as the previous poster states. I agree that he is most likely not one of our more upstanding citizens and if he is guilty, I hope there is enough to convict this time. But remember – innocent until proven guilty. Being sure of someone’s guilt or innocence based on looks – are you sure that’s the reasoning you want to give?

   It is not libel or against to law to comment that someone gave you a creepy feeling! Plus, it is our opinion that he looks guilty. We have not provide any false “facts”.

   What an odd time for the PC police to step in. Why is it okay to personally attack members of our neighborhood, but can’t even comment one of the top news stories?

   I did not know Sam personnally, but I do personally know two woman who worked for him. Trust me, he is pretty much (IMHO) a scum bag.

   To those of you who do not know this man personally, you have your opinion of him based on second hand testimonials and the news…I know him well enough to say if you all could stand in his shoes for a while, them maybe you could judge him.

   In my professional and personal dealings with him, I have found him to be sincere and thorough,dedicated to perfection and order in a world desperately lacking in both; while his physical appearence may creep some out, is your mirror showing you who you are, or what you look like? I respect him for finding the strength to make his own breaks and plow through the conservative bullcrap this city struggles to adhere to…like your closet holds no ghosts that would repel your neighbors. Shame on those who haven’t the courage to see his right to run this business is guaranteed in our constitution.Your choice is not to walk thru the doors of his establishment.As for the type of people Velvet attracts,maybe you should open your eyes wide enough to see the type of people any club in the bottom attracts.If Sam Moore is nothing else, he’s a realist and I’ll stand at his side in support of the same rights our great country allows us to. I predict when this is all over, it will resemble a witchhunt, and he will be placated by the same legal system that protects all of us.

   I went to college with this guy at Hampden-Sydney. I think he was class of 86. Another bit of trivia is he was in Kappa Sigma.

   I opened an old yearbook to check out his photo and it’s really shocking to contrast it with the one here. I don’t know how somebody can go from the H-SC environment to being a degenerate stripclub owner, accused murderer, rapist, etc., but boy this dude really fell hard!

    As a previous employee of Sam’s i’d have to say, Wow! So much for innocent until proven guilty! You guys are really quick to pass judgement on a man you dont know! 1. You may have seen Sam out and about, but the man ordering a beer was not him. He doesnt drink or smoke! and 2. he always wears a blazer. I think its pretty bad that your basing some of his innocence on looks! Sam is nothing more than a business man, and he has just as much right to run his establsment, as the owner of any other business. He is a good man. Do you always spend time bashing people you dont know and businesses you dont personally like. News Flash! That is what is so wonderful about “freedom” you dont have to go anywhere you dont desire to be. So why sit around and talk negatively about someone else’s work and life?

    I really think that you all have nothing better to do but talk about people. I work at a place near Velvet and Sam comes into my job all the time. He doesn’t bother anyone and is one of the nicest people you will meet. Have you ever been accused of something and didn’t do it. I know I have. Sam is always well dressed and well spoken. Maybe before you talk about someone you should know then first. It might look like he is crap because of the place he runs but he is just trying to make money just like you and I. I have no problem with him and I wish that people would stop talking about

    God doesn’t exist. If you think he does, please provide verifiable evidence. Remember, it is your assertion that he/it/she does, so please don’t come back with the standard, “Prove that he doesn’t.” argument.

    Why should he behind bars, if not found guilty of anything ?

    Judgement Day, that’s a fearmongering story made up by bronze age nomads who collectively wrote and compiled the atrocity known as The Bible. ( citations upon request )
