Club Velvet owner arrested in late-night raid

Club Velvet owner Sam Moore was arrested in a late-night raid. Representatives from the Richmond Police Department, the IRS, the Alcoholic and Beverage Control, & the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were part of the raid. CBS6 is reporting that this was “the result of a lengthy investigation involving illicit activities inside Club Velvet and on the behalf of Club Velvet”, and that Moore was arrested on outstanding warrants unrelated to the raid. I sure hope this raid wasn’t in vain. It would look pretty bad for local and federal officials to go though all this and only be able to come up with a couple frivolous charges. This is a great opportunity to kick a bad neighbor out of Shockoe Bottom. Let’s not muck it up.

Marco stated he has *known* the guy for years so that counts as a character witness in my opinion which would hold up in court.

And it’s only slander if it isn’t true. Given this guy’s history as shown in a later post, I’m of the opinion it’s true.

Seeing his lawyer makes statements like that doesn’t tell me the guy was really truly innocent. He got paid to defend his client which also means making public statements to that effect.

And why is it a woman is jealous and out for revenge when she files rape/sexual assault charges? This so often the defense of the perpetrator that I have a hard time believing it anymore.

I worked for him as a waitress for a few months about a year and a half ago. From what i saw he didnt sell drugs, matter of fact he didnt even do them or drink. He did some strange things but nothing like the charges that im hearing of. But its not like i could see everything that was going on so i guess some of it could be true. I just never knew of it or saw it so i do not think so.

I’ve known Sam Moore for years and he never once has done or sold drugs in my presence. Like stated before, he doesn’t even drink! He is actually a very intelligent individual and cares about the well being of others. I am an educated woman that fell victim to the “early 20’s party days” and Sam is one that directed me out of the lifestyle. He never once crossed any lines nor “promoted” me to Club Velvet. Sam Moore is going on trial for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is accused of having sex with a teenager over the age of 15. His trial begins at 2 p.m. at the Oliver Hill Courts Building.

Moore’s club “Velvet” is also being investigated by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. But so far, no charges have been filed in that investigation

Because everyone want’s to believe that Sam really commited this crime…the truth is, as soon as I came to his defense I was viciously and verbally attacked as being a liar. I do not lie. Everyone I worked with knew Sam and I were engaged. It was common knowledge amongst my coworkers…But what the public needs to know is that I reported multiple crimes committed against me inside and outside the clubs and not one FED came to my rescue…and the charges against all these people were dropped. And when I kept fighting to be heard, these FEDs came after the only man who was trying to protect me, my man. Anyone can illegally video tape someone having sex and then digitally alter these tapes and put other faces and body parts on the actual people to make them look different and realitic. And then use some vunerable young girl to falsely accuse someone of a crime. I know because they did this to me. I have spent three years of my life trying to find all the people who violated me. The more I round up the more come after me. You would get sick to your stomach if you were to see some of the videos that my security has taped of the crimes committed against me. They have raped me, mutilated my flesh, poisioned me, and severly beaten me. Now they resort to stealing my money out of my bank account by fraudulenty charging my account by keypunching in my debit card number when ever they want to keep me isolated so I cant run away. Strip-club owner seeks to block indictments on filming sex with minor (RTD 4/8/08)

The owner of a Richmond strip-club is trying to stop a multijurisdictional grand jury from hearing evidence or indicting him on charges of illegally filming sex with a minor.

Prosecutors previously had said they would seek a felony indictment against Moore for unlawfully filming sex he had with a minor in his residence above Club Velvet, a semi-nude strip club he operates on South 15th Street in Shockoe Bottom.

They also are seeking indictments against Moore, 44, on two misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for having sex with the 17-year-old girl on Feb. 20.

Sounds like Morchower is stalling out of desperation. Hopefully, Sam won’t be able to buy his way out of this conviction.
If he is so innocent, why was he in the psych ward? Guilty conscience perhaps, or a ploy by his lawyer?

I am a former employee of Sams. I understand that some people do not know how to interpret Sams very unique personality. Though it doesnt help that he is so quiet and private about everything he does, it gives no one right to pass judgement on how he thinks. Contrary to what most of his employees thought of him,(granted he has bad days) i though he wasnt so bad. A lot of women hate him for different reasons. They hated being yelled at. All Sam wanted all those women to do, is come to work and do their job. He was only negative when they didnt. I helped regulate most ABC rules we had to enforce. I can tell you that during the six months that I was there, no one under 21 came i to drink on my shift. Sam and I both ran people out of that club. Even for something as minor as pot. He may at times bite the hands that feed him, but he had the best interest of the club at hand. As for the Julians club, I can not say for fact that he had no intention of making it a strip club, but I know what we discussed, and that was to start a bikini bar. NO nudity, but instead, waitresses in bikinis. Hmmm… About the underage issues, I have no facts, but I am surprised of the accusations. If I had to speak on his behalf, I would say that I would have never thought he was a man to commit such crimes.I was never involved personally or sexually with sam but I know for a fact, sexually he is a multi- partner kind of man, but… It is still hard for me to believe that he would knowingly commit a crime like that!

And to Karen(Sam’s wife??), I do not know you. I will not reveal my full name because, like sam, I like my privacy. Though your past experiences sound horrific, why do you think his case has anything to do with you? I dont think that FEDs carry personal vendettas. Sarah, since you have not had a sexual relationship with Sam, you don’t know his true nature. I was involved with him for a long time, and yes he is a multi-partner guy which I was aware of when dating him, but he is also abusive- both verbally and physically. I know many other women he was involved with who have the same story, Sam hates women and does everything in his power to degrade them.
You are also correct that he doesn’t drink or do drugs, but he does give them to women for sex. He gave them to me and I’ve also seem him give them to other women on many occasions, not just once.
I also feel pretty sure that he is not married nor engaged, he would never do that.
Notice how Karen has stopped posting, in her defense, he seeks out unstable women and makes them even more unstable.
Sarah is not my real name, I would never post it because I know the kind of violence Sam is capable of- I’ve seen him beat someone up over losing a bet, he shot up a woman’s car years ago at the ODC club because he lost a bet, and he killed someone.
He is private and quiet because he has a lot to hide.

I have not lived in Richmond for a few years, and was shocked and sorry to hear of the latest on Sam. I spent a lot of time with Sam a few years ago, and although he did have “diverse tastes”, so to speak, he was never rude, disrespectful, demeaning or degrading to me or any of my friends. Sadly, a lot of women came on to Sam because they know he’s wealthy. He does not suffer gold diggers well, and in the time I knew him there were plenty of those around. If you don’t like his establishment, don’t go. It’s really that simple.

If this is the karen that i met, she is not sam’s wife. I’ve heard her story of traveling the east coast after she was forced to leave velvet after a fight with another girl over sam. She told me horror stories of rape and assault and she is convinced that the current accusations against sam are false and that these girls framed him. I don’t know if she’s crazy and making half of her story up, or if she’s telling the truth, but she freaked me out…so my personal opinion is that she’s crazy.

That being said, I know that sam does not drink or even smoke cigarettes. I have never witnessed him act violent. I think that he must be intelligent based upon his business plans… I must say I am impressed.

Honestly I feel more threatened by some of the girls there than sam. He’s funny, chill and smart. He looks out for his girls. If there is ever any problem, sam will take immediate action, he will not tolerate fighting between the girls or customers behaving inappropriately…He’s like any other business owner.
