Have you seen the light?

richmond_spotlights.jpg

Visible from interstates 64 and 95, the twin spotlights at Velvet beckon to the lonely traveller seeking a “$4 steak, potato, and lapdance lunch”.

Honestly I think the spotlights add a little pizazz to Richmond’s nightime skyline… what I can’t stand is the bedraggled Santa with a cardboard cutout woman welcoming folks to Shockoe Bottom at 11 in the morning. Heard he’s been out there even earlier. You don’t get much more low class than that. If they tried to go more upscale and less “in your face” (Hello, are two Hummers really necessary?) I think they could actually be an asset.

I dislike the light pollution and wasted energy.

I walk by that Santa everyday leaving my work to the parking lot… “in your face” is definitely one way to put it.

I am absolutely appalled that Richmond City Hall would allow a gentlemen’s club to place two spotlights on its roof. Typically such lights are used to draw attention to special events. It is a shame the “special event” advertised in Richmond involves a gorilla (or Santa depending upon the season) and a skantily clad female. Richmond . . . where’s your class??

I’m just glad they painted over the Diana mural. It was a terrible likeness and an ill-advised tribute.
