giant billboard may soon come down

Style Weekly is reporting that a resolution may be close for the Mayo Island Billboard (”which stands more than 90 feet high and is out of compliance with zoning regulations”). A deal may be in the works which would trade the sign to the city for an electronic billboard on Interstate 95 at the Fifth Street exit.

The new sign near the 5th St exit would be a better choice for them. All the traffic jams will give people plenty of time to read the new billboard.

I’d like to see Richmond follow the footsteps of Sao Paulo Brazil. Last spring the city banned all out door advertising.

    Here is the story, http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/12/12/news/brazil.php

I think it is madness that Lamar is hustling the city into accomodating them, what rights do they have, they are squatters, the city has the right to kick them out.

They just don’t want to step on any toes IMHO.

All the billboards are necessary so the “strong mayor” can point to the New Jersey turnpike as an example of “progress.”
