Tuesday’s election

There is apparently some kind of election on Tuesday… Henry Marsh, the incumbent Democrat, is being challenged by the Independent candidate Robert Owens of Chester for his Senate of Virginia 16th District seat. Democrat Dwight C. Jones is running unopposed for the House Of Delegates 70th District seat.

30th anniversary RVA marathon

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of “America’s Friendliest Marathon” when the SunTrust Richmond Marathon takes place this coming Saturday. Roads will be closed, of course, and there will be finish line activities at Cary and 12th Streets.

Potential New Development

Crosland Development has submitted a plan of development for a parcel of land on the south end of the Lee Bridge (roughly defined as everything north of Stonewall Ave between 19th St and Cowardin). At 4 stories, it’s a much smaller development than the tower once known as “Manchester on the James” that was originally intended for this site.

RichmondCityWatch has a rendering, and there is reportedly a meeting today at the offices of Williams & Mullen (no idea of a time, though) for community discussion.

Wearable Art X

Saturday’s Wearable Art X will be a full production complete with music, lighting, the fashion runway, and professional models in a “imaginative fusions of media, sculpture and movement that are the signature of the event”. Style Weekly has a piece on the launch of LuLu’s, the new restaurant at 21 North 17th Street by Millie’s owner Paul Keevil and long-time chef Steve Jurina. LuLu’s is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday-Saturday and Sunday brunch.

This week’s edition of richmond.com “Ask the Mayor” has a question about the city’s proposed 73-slip public marina at Intermediate Terminal. The city’s marina is slated to be paired with the The Villages at Rocketts Landing’s planned 100-slip marina, with “both managed as a single entity with one harbormaster and shared amenities such as a fueling station”.

Halligan Bar & Grill coming to 17th Street

Style Weekly had the word about the new restaurant/bar, Halligan Bar & Grill, that is going into the space at 3 North 17th Street that used to be the Kitchen Table. The project of Henrico firefighter Shawn Gregory, the only restaurant in town with 1/2 of a firetruck as the bar will be open for lunch and dinner daily.
